Isaiah 64:8 - But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our Potter; and we all are the work of thine hand.
Have you ever wondered why you were born, why God put you on this earth? Each of us have a special reason for being here. It is up to us to find out just what that reason is.
We are His workmanship. We have been created in Christ Jesus for good works that God has designed ahead of time for us to do while we are here (Ephesians 2:10). God chose you before you were even formed in your mother’s womb. He set you apart and appointed you for something special (Jeremiah 1:5).
When a Potter gets ready to make a vessel, he chooses just the right clay. He puts it on the spinning wheel and starts to spin the wheel slowly at first. As he is spinning, he delicately molds and shapes the vessel the way he wants it to turn out. When he is finished, he preheats the oven to a certain degree. When it is hot enough, he puts the molded vessel into the heated oven and shuts the door. He anxiously awaits while his vessel is going through the fire, thinking how beautiful it is going to be when the whole process is finished. At the right time, he takes the vessel out and goes through the next step. He checks to see if there are any flaws in the vessel that he has chosen to make. If he finds any flaws, the vessel goes back to the Potter’s wheel to be worked on some more. When it is finally finished and perfect just like he wants it, he picks out a beautiful color and delicately applies the paint. At last, he is ready to use the chosen vessel for something special. He proudly puts it in a place where everyone can see what a beautiful creation he has made.
Along the walls of the Potter’s house are shelves lined with beautiful vessel’s ready to be used. In the Master Potter’s (God) house, there are millions of earthly vessels that He has created for special use. You are among those beautiful earthly vessels. Some don’t want to be used. They want to stay on the shelf. Many vessels cry out to be used by the Master Potter. I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me (Isaiah 6:8). Many of you have cried out to God, asking just that. "Lord, what do you want me to do? Here am I; Send me. I will go for you and do what you want me to do.
In these last days, God said He would pour out His Spirit upon all flesh, that our sons and our daughters shall prophesy, our old men would dream dreams, our young men shall see visions, and upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days I will pour out my spirit (Joel 2:28).
There are many women all through the Bible that have been used in many different ways. Some were in church leadership. Some did the small jobs that needed to be done. Some were noticed and some were unnoticed.
In the book of Ester, it tells a story about Haman, who hated the Jews and was out seeking their destruction. Mordecai was a Jew. He raised Ester as his own daughter. Queen Vashti deliberately disobeyed the orders of King Ahasureus. He replaced her with Ester and Ester became Queen. He didn’t know she was a Jew. When the decree was issued for the destruction of all of the Jews, men, women, girls, boys, elderly and babies, Mordecai asked Ester to speak to the King for the people. At first, Ester didn’t want to. In Chapter 4, verse 14, Mordecai told Ester that she may have been born for such a time as this. You may have been born for such a time as this. No one was suppose to go before the King unless they were asked or they would be killed. Ester took her chances and went to speak to the King for the Jewish people. In Chapter 7, she told him what was happening. The Jews were spared death and destruction because of Ester. God used Ester that day in a mighty way.
In Philippians 4:2-3, it talks of two women who labored with Paul in the advancement of the gospel. They were Euodia and Syntyche.
Aaron’s sister, Miriam, was a Prophetess. From Exodus 15:20-21, it looks like she may have been a Praise and Worship Leader too.
In Judges 4:4-9, God used the Prophetess Deborah to prophesy Barak’s victory over the Caananites.
Huldah was a Prophetess who predicted the prosperous reign of King Josiah ( 2 Chronicles 34: 22-28).
Anna was the Prophetess who was present at the dedication of the baby Jesus on the temple. She stayed in the temple and served God with fastings and prayer, not just during the day but at night too. Luke 2: 36-38 says that Anna spoke about Jesus to all of them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. She was a speaker.
All through the Bible, women have been greatly used of God. They continue to be greatly used of God today in many different ways. Women were and are a vital and normal part of the ministry of the gospel today. As long as they are willing vessels, they will be used of God.
The Master Potter has shaped them and molded them until He got them where He wanted them. All of us have been through the fire. We have been tested and tried so we would be fit for the Master’s use. Many of us have overcome tremendous obstacles to get where we are today.
I want to encourage you, my sister, and tell you that you are greatly needed in the Body of Christ. You have a very important part to play. You may be like Ester. Maybe you were born for such a time as this. God has put certain talents and gifts in you for a special reason. He knew before you were born what He had planned for you to do. You are the Potter’s chosen vessel.
